For nearly three decades, Rick Maguire has been hand-crafting stringed instruments as if it were his “only chance to leave a mark upon the earth.”
Since the creation of each stringed instrument is a labor-intensive endeavor, Rick offers only the finest tonewoods for production and customization. Imported woods come from Australia, New Zealand and South America and are cherry-picked for the best individual boards (whether figured or straight-grained). For the Maguire Guitars shop, only about 50 board feet out of every 1000 board feet of wood imported, end up in Maguire instruments. The rest is sold or traded for woods of other origin to ensure each and every piece is precisely suited in both weight, properties and style for that unique instrument. No corners are ever cut on quality.
Because provenance matters to Rick, he sources newly harvested tonewoods from certified sustainable-yield sawyers. For decades, he has also painstakingly stockpiled older and legally-protected tonewoods from dwindling pre-CITES legacy sources. His shop retains the ability to use the best materials for the best sound for any given instrument.
Rick lives and works in Rhode Island with his family and two dogs.
